In classrooms, teachers are the focal point of many social exchanges, and they are the professionals whose task is to organize the (social) classroom environment. This study used two ways to gauge the importance of teachers and their interpersonal relations with students for student emotions in class.The Interpersonal Circle for Teachers (left, IPC-T) and Students (right, IPC-S). Words at the circumference of the circle are typical descriptions of interpersonal teacher and student behaviour each representing a specific blend of Agency and Communion (cf. Claessens et al., 2017, Wubbels et al., 2012).Examines communication skills in the teacher-student relationship. Finds that students reported referential skill, ego support, and conflict management as being most important to effective teaching; and that referential skill, ego support, and immediacy have a strong relationship with student learning and motivation. Finds some sex differences.
